FOI 00504 - Whistleblowing policy

Request:

Received: 4 August 2026

QUESTION 1:

Please provide a copy of the metropolitan police federation (MPF) and police federation of England and wales (PFEW) internal whistleblowing policy.

This is not to be confused with the MPF or PFEW policy for officer reporting wrongdoing within their force. I am seeking the policy for federation officials, officers or employees who wish to report wrongdoing within the federation.

I am aware that a previous request (your reference FOI 00161) provided a response to a similar request and referenced  a policy relating to force disclosures.  I am also aware that a further policy is available via the ‘polfed’ website entitled "WHISTLEBLOWING" PROCEDURE FOR JCC STAFF” however this policy was last updated in January 2010.  If you choose to withhold this information under S21 FOIA 2000  can you confirm that this 16 year old policy is still valid.

QUESTION 2:

Please also provide details of how many officers (dates, home branch and number will suffice) have applied for, and been granted or refused protected status under this policy in the last 10 years.

Response:

Responded: 4 August 2026

RESPONSE 1:

Our whistleblowing policy has recently been updated.  Please find the new policy, called “Right to Speak” attached here.  It covers all current and former employees, contractors, casual, agency and zero hours workers, current and former elected representatives and current and retired PFEW members.

RESPONSE 2:

The PFEW does not hold this data.
