QUESTION:
Under the Freedom of Information Act, may I please confirm how many newly elected Federation Representatives have not been issued with either a Federation mobile phone or a Federation laptop?
Responded: 17 March 2026
RESPONSE:
As a result of the 2025 elections, the Metropolitan Police Federation (MPF) received a considerable increase (more than 50%) in the amount of Federation Representatives (Fed reps) compared with the previous triennial election process.
Simultaneously, shortly after the elections began, many of the Federation’s iPhones were deemed to be “end of life” by Apple, meaning that they would no longer be receiving IOS updates for regularly used apps used by the Federation, such as Microsoft Teams and Outlook. During 2025, the Federation embarked upon the purchase of newer iPhones, not only to replace those that are “end of life” but to manage the deficit that the large intake of new Fed reps brought.
In relation to laptops, a new rep is only issued with a Federation laptop following successful completion of both parts one and two of their Fed rep training. The remaining Fed reps who have not yet been issued with a laptop either have not, for varying reasons, completed both parts of their Fed rep training or have not successfully engaged with the IT Department to arrange setup.
