1) State how much the Penningtons case is currently costing the PFEW.
Responded: 21 November 2023
QUESTION: State how much the Penningtons case is currently costing the PFEW |
RESPONSE: The Police Federation of England and Wales’ (PFEW) records show that the current cost in relation to this case is £291,583 (including VAT). |
QUESTION: Why do you now feel that this case was the right thing to put in motion as there was no case to answer, as the PFEW kept telling members. |
RESPONSE: Following the McCloud/Sargeant ruling, and the successful outcome of the Leigh Day pension challenge claim, the Government refused to reassure the PFEW that it would treat all affected police officers the same, whether they were part of the Leigh Day claim or not. PFEW instigated the Penningtons case to try and ensure all affected officers would be similarly compensated. |
QUESTION: Is the money to fund this action only being taken out of the subs paid by those in the Pennington challenge |
RESPONSE: The budget for the funding of litigation claims, including the Penningtons claim in question, comes from the overall subscription income contributed by the members. |
QUESTION: Have officers who started after 01/04/2015 been allowed to join this action and if so how many? |
RESPONSE: Officers who joined the Police after 01/04/2015 cannot be part of the PFEW action because they could not be affected by the court decision as they were not in a previous Police Pension Scheme. |
