Diane (Di) Nuttall has made an exceptional contribution to West Yorkshire Police Federation, earning the respect of colleagues and members alike through her unwavering commitment, professionalism and dedication to supporting officers.

Elected as a Federation representative in 2020, Di immediately immersed herself in the challenging world of conduct work. From the outset, she demonstrated a strong commitment to Federation values, quickly becoming known as a trusted and dependable advocate for members facing some of the most difficult situations of their careers.

During her time as a representative, Di managed an impressive caseload, supporting members in more than 180 recorded cases, including over 100 complex conduct matters. Determined to provide the highest standard of representation, she invested in her own development by completing advocacy and post-incident training, while also joining the branch's on-call team. Her knowledge, experience and practical advice soon made her a respected source of support for fellow representatives across the branch.

In February 2023, Di was elected Deputy Conduct and Performance Lead Officer (CAPLO), reflecting the confidence her colleagues had in her abilities and leadership. Alongside her role at the Force Training School, she helped oversee the branch's conduct work, ensuring members received expert support whenever they needed it.

One of Di's key responsibilities was managing the 24/7 on-call rota for misconduct representatives and panel solicitors, helping to guarantee urgent support was always available. She also played an important role in strategic meetings with the Independent Office for Police Conduct and Professional Standards Department, ensuring members' rights and interests were robustly represented.

As passionate about developing others as she was about supporting members, Di became a valued mentor to newly trained representatives. She freely shared her knowledge, offering guidance on conduct procedures, case law and advocacy skills, helping to build confidence and expertise among colleagues across the branch.

Her leadership journey continued in June 2024 when she joined the Branch Board. Bringing the same determination and professionalism that had defined her representative work, Di contributed to the wider strategic direction of the branch while continuing to champion the interests of members.

Although she retired in September 2025, Di's influence remains evident today. Through her hard work and leadership, she helped create a strong and capable conduct team that continues to provide outstanding support to members. Her commitment to mentoring others has ensured a new generation of representatives is ready to carry forward the standards she set.

Throughout her Federation career, Di combined professionalism with compassion, always putting members first and striving to achieve the best possible outcomes. Her legacy is one of service, integrity and dedication, making her a truly deserving nominee for the inaugural Rep of the Year Award.
