The latest edition of POLICE magazine is out today, featuring special coverage from the 20th National Police Memorial Day and this year’s Police Unity Tour, as we remember all fallen officers.

In a thought-provoking conversation, Steve Hartshorn speaks to HM Inspector of Constabulary and HM Inspector of Fire and Rescue Services Andy Cooke about the changes needed to restore public confidence and building up workforce morale, plus there is a guest feature from Professor Sarah Charman and Dr Jemma Tyson from the University of Portsmouth, addressing the rise of voluntary resignations in policing.

Looking back at 2023, the chair and secretary of the Police Federation National Detectives’ Forum reflect on the group’s accomplishments one year on, as they continue to press for better reward and recognition for members in investigative roles, and Special Constabulary Lead Nicky Ryan reflects on 12 months of PFEW membership for special constables.

We also take a look at the work of City of London Federation, with a catch up with its new secretary, Suzanne Ferris, its first ever female executive officer in almost 100 years.

Sharing good practice across forces, we interviewed Superintendent James Faulkner from Greater Manchester Police about Operation Lioness, and Sergeant Richard Jones from West Mercia Police on ‘Walk and Talk’, both new initiatives launched to tackle violence against women and girls.

You can check out new College of Policing guidance on investigating burglaries and about its upcoming launch of public and personal safety training, as we sit down with a serving police officer who explains how it will help reduce officer assaults.

For a dose of inspirational stories, we share the journey of PC Ellie Downes, who was nominated for the Inspiration in Policing Award for her courage and commitment to the service, while she was diagnosed with cancer twice, plus we catch up with Rich and Monty from West Midlands Police, who have made it their mission to make anyone suffering from functional neurological disorder aware they are not alone.

Looking for expert financial advice? Annette Petchey, CEO of Metfriendly, highlights hints and tips for managing your money in these continuing challenging financial times, and much more.

We hope you enjoy this edition.
