The December edition of POLICE is out now, a special end of year issue packed full of features on a wide range of topics across the policing sector.

In our regular ‘Chair Asks’ section, Steve Hartshorn met with Bryn Hughes to talk about the importance of the Medals for Heroes campaign in recognising the potential costs of public service along with the campaign’s progress through 2023, while Deputy National Chair Tiff Lynch answers members’ questions on industrial rights and supporting police officers in the media in her Q&A column.

As we approach the end of the year, CEO Mukund Krishna takes the opportunity to update members on some key pieces of work since his appointment in September, and we reflect on the positive things that have happened over the past 12 months as PFEW has continued to support its members through its campaigning, including engaging with Conservative and Labour MPs and senior ministers in October to influence change.

Dr Jenny Burbage, of Portsmouth University’s Research Group in Breast Health, discusses her work carried out in collaboration with Oscar Kilo that aims to address the correlation between bra choices and breast health for female officers in a fascinating guest feature, and we revisit our look at the T10 Taser and the advancements it offers as we continue to push for the best kit and equipment.

Promoting useful support resources, we take a look at a new app which aims to help officers struggling with addiction. Help 4 Addiction has been working to assist addicts and all those affected by addiction since 2015. In partnership with PFEW, Rehubs is of free access to all police officers. As ‘Blue Monday’ approaches, learn how you can get involved in ending the myth of Monday being ‘blue’ and instead start a conversation over a brew, with Samaritans Brew Monday.

You can also take a look back in time, as Merseyside police officers celebrate the 50th anniversary of a historic police station, and much more.

We hope you enjoy this edition.
