The Department for Transport (DfT) and Civica UK have teamed up to deliver a new cloud-based version of the Collision Reporting and Sharing system (CRaSH).

The latest version seven is supported, developed and maintained by Civica UK and is fully funded by the DfT meaning it is available to forces across England and Wales for free.

It aims to be the “one stop shop” for police officers where they can record data and manage a roadside collision in real time through the mobile app, which they claim will save forces both time and money.

The data collected is stored on the secure Microsoft Azure Cloud and helps identify collision hot spots through advanced mapping as well as detect repeat offenders highlighting potential “crash for cash” scammers.

Some forces in England and Wales have already started using the CRaSH system.
A spokesperson from Department for Transport said: “This technology ensures police officers can record accurate information about crashes – ensuring they spend less time on paperwork and more time preventing crime.”

“This data will also help local authorities identify issues and act more quickly to improve road safety.”
