Police officers who have performed outstanding acts of courage will be honoured today at the Federation’s annual Police Bravery Awards.
The 2019 awards, sponsored Police Mutual, will see 71 nominees from a total of 40 forces in England and Wales receive the recognition they deserve at a glittering gala event in Central London. This will be broadcast live via our website.
Eight regional winners will be announced along with an overall winner.
That person (or persons) will follow in the footsteps of last year’s national winners PC Keith Palmer and PC Charlie Guenigault. PC Palmer tragically lost his life in 2017 tackling a terrorist at the Palace of Westminster, and PC Guenigault was stabbed multiple times as he tried to save others in the London Bridge terror attack the same year.
A new category has been introduced for 2019, the Inspiration in Policing Award.
John Apter, National Chair of the Police Federation of England and Wales said the awards, which are in their 24th year, are an occasion for the police family to come together to proudly recognise officers who have gone above and beyond what is expected.
He said: “These awards highlight the incredible bravery that officers protecting our country show every single day. They are a credit to the service and I am proud to call them colleagues.”
John Perks, Chief Executive Officer of Police Mutual, added: “It is a privilege for my colleagues and I to be able to show our respect for the exceptional bravery shown by police officers who risk their lives every day to protect the public and keep us safe.”
Prior to the awards event, the nominees will attend a reception with the Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street.
