Nottinghamshire Police Federation members are being encouraged to have their say on their uniform by taking part in a national survey.
The Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) is collaborating with researchers at Lancaster University on the National Police Uniform and Equipment Survey.
The survey has had input from the National Police Chiefs’ Council, the Police Superintendents’ Association, UNISON and the Home Office, and data will help shape future uniform policy.
It closes on Monday 12 August.
The survey explores a range of issues including whether the uniform is comfortable, whether it affects officers’ health, and how it makes them feel.
Branch chair Simon Riley said: “Uniform is a central part of being a police officer and it’s important that it’s functioning and fit for purpose.
“We want to make sure that any issues there are around uniform are highlighted so we can ensure future decisions are fully informed.
“Please take the time to have your say.”
Inspector Hayley Crawford, uniform lead for Nottinghamshire Empowering Women to Succeed (NEWS) network, highlighted issues with uniform and equipment for female officers.
She said: “The uniform is very masculine and cheap.
“Women have been suffering for years with trousers which give them health issues and are cut and seamed in uncomfortable places.
“In addition, the stab vest is not designed for women. They have gaps and plates which push on breasts as they are not curved to accommodate women.
“Women’s curves are not accommodated because the cheaper trousers and uniform are shapeless.”
