The National Police Healthcare Scheme - established in 1989 - is a self-financing Scheme set up under a Trust Deed to provide private medical advice and treatment to subscribing members and their dependants.

The main objective of the Scheme is to make the advantages of private medical care available to members at a reasonable cost, representing very good value for money and is still lower than most other Schemes.

 

  • Subscribing Police Officers who are subscribing members of the Police Federation and can take into retirement
  • Police Staff & can take into retirement
  • Spouse/Partner & dependant Children under 21 years of age, of a Serving Police Officer/Police staff who is a member of the Scheme

  • Maximum benefit per member/associate member per twelve-month period: £32,000.
  • Consultation fees: up to £1,500 per twelve-month period.
  • Diagnostic tests: up to £2,500 per twelve-month period.
  • Cosmetic or aesthetic surgery: up to £7,000 per twelve-month period, under specific conditions.
  • Cash benefit for using NHS services: £100 per night or day-case surgery, up to £2,500 per twelve-month period.
  • Outpatient physiotherapy and related treatments: up to £400 per condition per twelve-month period.

 

  • Treatments exceeding £32,000 per claim annually.
  • Cancer treatments (radiotherapy or chemotherapy).
  • Cosmetic surgeries not related to medical treatment.
  • Major surgeries available on the NHS, family planning, or infertility treatments.
  • Treatments for drug, alcohol, or substance abuse, and pregnancy-related treatments.
  • Psychiatric or mental health treatments, and renal dialysis beyond six weeks.
  • General practitioner, dental, optical services, and homeopathic treatments unless referred by a consultant.
  • Overseas treatments, routine check-ups, preventative treatments, and non-medical expenses.
  • Treatments for injuries from extreme sports or self-inflicted injuries.

 The National Police Healthcare Scheme is not private medical insurance.

There are no guarantees of benefits, and the scheme does not cover long-term or chronic illnesses. The Trustees have the absolute discretion to approve or deny claims based on the scheme's financial health and the individual case's merits.

Serving Officers who are Members of the Scheme will also receive FREE Police Treatment Centre Membership. 

There is no waiting time to access treatments so if you are thinking of joining the Police Treatment Centre and aware you have to wait 12 months this scheme does not have the same ruling.  In essence, join the scheme and you could be at Harrogate or Auchterardar very quickly.

Scheme members will also have the opportunity to rent our barn conversions in Wandylaw, Northumberland at vastly discounted prices.

 

 

  • Complete the application form and forward to office@lincs.polfed.org
  • Lincs Federation will then send your completed form to the Healthcare Team at Northumbria who will make direct contact with you to confirm your membership
  • The Healthcare team will then contact Lincs Payroll and your subscriptions will commence after your 3 months free membership.

  • Any member wishing to make a claim under the Scheme must initially obtain a Claim Form from the team at healthcare@npf.polfed.org or call the team on 0191 437 3000 before seeing their GP.
  • At the consultation, any necessary diagnostic tests only can be carried out.
  • Any procedures proposed by the Consultant following the diagnostic tests must be referred to Northumbria Police Federation for prior approval.
  • Please note that a £50 excess payment is required for any new Claim and must be submitted when returning the GP referral form.
  • Payment of the £50 excess can be made by Bank Transfer (details of which can be obtained by telephoning the Northumbria Federation Office on 0191 437 3000). If paying by cheque it will be £55, due to bank charges, made payable to the National Police Healthcare Scheme

If you wish to cancel your membership you must inform the Healthcare Administrators at healthcare@npf.polfed.org who in turn will make contact with Lincs Payroll for you
