Remembering Sergeant Graham Saville

29 August 2026

Nottinghamshire Police Federation today remembers Sergeant Graham Saville on the third anniversary of his death.

Officers had responded to reports of a male in distress on the railway lines at Balderton, near Newark Northgate Station at just before 7pm on 24 August 2023.

Graham, 46, entered the rail network to help save the man but, while doing so, was struck by a passing train.

Both men were taken to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham but on 29 August, Graham sadly died from his injuries.

Nottinghamshire Police Federation secretary Tom Hill said: “Today marks the third anniversary of Graham’s death and we keep his family, friends and colleagues in our thoughts.

“Graham’s tragic death sent shockwaves through our Force and policing and was felt well beyond the policing family. It serves to remind us of the dangers and risks that officers face every day.

“We will remember Graham and every officer that has made the ultimate sacrifice. We will not forget them.”
