Nottinghamshire Police Federation

Urgent message from the chair: do not give out your details

16 April 2024

Nottinghamshire Police Federation have been made aware of a project currently circulating online which is asking for details of former and serving officers, in order to feed a historical database of all officers who have served with Nottinghamshire Police or any of its predecessors, prior to the amalgamation of all Nottinghamshire forces to create the Nottinghamshire Combined Constabulary in 1968.

While we have been satisfied that the database is not publicly searchable and that full GDPR compliance is in place, please be advised that Nottinghamshire Police Federation do not support or endorse this database.

While we cannot physically prevent serving members from voluntarily complying with the request, we advise that our members do not engage.

We would take this opportunity to remind our members of the direction provided by the Force in its social media policy regarding publicly identifying yourself as a police officer on any social media platform and would draw members’ attention to the security advice contained within the policy, regarding your personal social media profiles.

Engagement with the proposed database could see you in breach of that Force policy and could lead to significant personal risk.

If any serving members have already engaged with the request, then they are advised to request that their details are removed from the database.

The author of the database has been contacted with our views and has been informed of our lack of support for this project.

Chair of Nottinghamshire Police Federation, Inspector Simon Riley
