National Police Memorial Day taking place on Sunday

25 September 2024

The National Police Memorial Day (NPMD) is one of the most significant events on the policing calendar and helps keep the memories of fallen officers alive.

That’s the feeling of Nottinghamshire Police Federation secretary Tom Hill, who will be representing the branch at this year’s service.

Tom will join the families of fallen officers, representatives of the UK’s police services and police forces, and political and religious leaders in Glasgow this weekend, where they will honour more than 5,000 police officers who have died while on duty.

Tom said: “The National Police Memorial Day is one of the most important events in policing and is a poignant reminder of the commitment and dedication of police officers.

“I’m always honoured and also humbled to represent Nottinghamshire Police Federation and our members.

“The selflessness and sacrifice of our fallen colleagues must never be forgotten and NPMD helps us to keep those memories alive.

“It’s an occasion when policing comes together and shows its support for family, friends, and colleagues, and I hope it can provide them with some comfort.”

Royal Concert Hall

This year’s service takes place at 2pm on Sunday (29 September. Members can still register to attend the NPMD Service.

Ahead of the service, there will be a parade from Glasgow’s George Square to the Royal Concert Hall involving the Police Scotland and Scottish Federation Pipe Band, and standard bearers carrying force flags from across the UK.

A guard of honour made up of officers from the UK and abroad will welcome the pipe band and the force standards procession.

There will be a Police Scotland flypast above the Royal Concert Hall at 12.40pm and vintage police vehicles will be on display in George Square.

The NPMD Tribute Wall is now live for people to share their memories and messages, and will remain online until a month after the NPMD weekend.

And for those who are unable to attend, an online service featuring highlights will be posted to the NPMD website after the event.
