Nottinghamshire Police Federation members are invited to try out a range of adaptive and disabled sports at a free multi-sport taster event this weekend.
Police UK Disability Sport (PUKDS) is hosting the event at Nottingham Police headquarters this Saturday and Sunday (23 and 24 November).
It starts at 10am and finishes at 6pm on both days.
Federation member Gary Callier set up PUKDS last year after he found there was no disability sports program in policing.
Gary had organised a similar event earlier in the summer but the riots and public disorder impacted attendance.
Now, with the support of Nottinghamshire Police and the Federation branch, the event has been rescheduled for this weekend.
He said: “It’s free to everyone in the policing community so please come down and try out all of these great sports.”
Wheelchair rugby
Wheelchair basketball
Sitting volleyball
Wheelchair American football
Wheelchair rugby league
Indoor bowls
Darts
Pool
Table Tennis
PUKDS will also use the event to launch Nottinghamshire Police headquarters as an adaptive and disability sports hub for the East Midlands, which it is calling Region 5.
It aims to set up adaptive and disability teams for officers in Derbyshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, and Lincolnshire, as well as Nottinghamshire. They would play against community clubs and teams.
It’s also envisaged that as more hubs are established and more police teams are created in other areas of the country, then they will play against each other.
Gary said: “We’ve had Sport England funding come through, which has helped us to buy sporting equipment and kit.
“It’s funding two wheelchair rugby, two wheelchair basketball, and sitting volleyball chairs to start with.
“It’s really exciting and we’d love as many people as possible to come and join us and to see what we have to offer.”
