Nottinghamshire Police Federation

Hard work and dedication of officers acknowledged

6 August 2024

Nottinghamshire Police Federation chair Simon Riley has praised officers for their ‘commitment and professionalism’ in policing protests.

Simultaneous demonstrations took place in Nottingham city centre on Saturday with a high-visibility police presence helping to ensure there was no large-scale disorder.

Simon said: “I would like to thank our members who have been policing protests in Nottingham city centre and supporting colleagues in other forces.

“They continue to do an excellent job in difficult circumstances, and are doing it with the utmost skill, commitment, and professionalism.”

A total of 15 people were arrested during Saturday's demonstrations.

Arrested

Nottinghamshire Police confirmed today that eight people have been charged with a variety of offences, including public order, weapon offences, and assaulting an emergency worker.

Elsewhere in the country, officers have been subjected to sustained levels of violence in trying to protect the communities they serve.

Simon said: “We stand with our colleagues across the country during what is a very difficult and unprecedented period.

“Our members here in Nottinghamshire will continue to police any protests.

“We are very much part of our communities and we are committed to keeping those communities safe.”
