Putting in place a will and power of attorney are often difficult discussions, but new advice is available for members of Nottinghamshire Police Federation to make it a little bit easier.
Police Mutual, which provides financial services and welfare support to the police service, has produced two factsheets providing members with advice on writing wills and lasting power of attorney.
Let’s Talk Wills aims to provide advice on what to consider when writing a will, such as what happens to your estate, who is appointed guardian for any children, and who you might want to look after pets.
The factsheet is available to download now for free here.
Let’s Talk Powers of Attorney, meanwhile, provides guidance on having one in place and how it can benefit you and your family.
Power of attorney gives someone you trust the legal authority to make decisions on your behalf if you are no longer able to make them yourself, or you don't want to.
The guide talks you through a property and financial affairs lasting power of attorney, which could cover all aspects of your financial wellbeing, such as managing bank accounts, paying bills, or selling property.
And it looks at a health and care lasting power of attorney. This takes effect when you are no longer able to make decisions for yourself, and could include anything from where you live, how you will be cared for and the type of treatment you receive.
