A productive meeting between Nottinghamshire Police Federation representatives and local MPs took place this week in London, addressing critical issues affecting members.
Organised collaboratively by branch chair Simon Riley and Lilian Greenwood, MP for Nottingham South, the meeting was held in Parliament on Tuesday (3 December).
Secretary of Nottinghamshire Police Federation Tom Hill also attended, along with several other key MPs and their representatives:
“It is extremely encouraging to have such positive engagement from our local MPs,” said Simon, adding: “These conversations are absolutely critical to getting the views of our members heard.
“I’ve heard from fellow branch council members across England and Wales that not all MPs have been so forthcoming with meeting their local Police Federations, so I really do appreciate every single person who joined us on Tuesday giving up their time to meet with us.”
Discussions on the day covered a range of pressing issues, including pay and morale, with Simon and Tom painting a detailed picture of the challenges faced by local officers. MPs were briefed on the dissatisfaction many members feel regarding their remuneration and the impact this is having on morale.
Beyond survey results, discussions explored broader concerns about pay scales, workload and working conditions.
The industrial rights campaign was outlined, with Simon and Tom highlighting the Federation’s push for changes to give police officers greater representation and pay negotiation rights.
Plus, the Federation’s #SimplifyDG6 Campaign was discussed, drawing light on the goal to streamline disclosure guidelines, which will, in turn, reduce administrative burdens on officers.

“I’m determined to build and develop relationships with our local MPs,” continued Simon.
“After all, they give us a national voice - when it matters most. I look forward to meeting with them again in the future.”
Branch secretary Tom heaped praise on Simon for organising the collaborative event.
“As Simon mentioned, for a Federation to have met with not just one of our local MPs but get five government representatives in one room is noteworthy.
“I hope this demonstrates to our members just how committed we are to engaging with MPs on their behalf - sharing their views and concerns while shining a light on the challenges that come with policing today.
“I’d personally like to congratulate Simon for organising such a successful event. I hope this is the first of many.”
