Nottinghamshire Police Federation chair Simon Riley has today paid tribute to PC Gerald (Ged) Walker who died on this day 20 years ago.
Dog handler Ged (42) was killed when he gave chase with his dog after a stolen car was abandoned in Bulwell. He tried to arrest the suspect as he drove away in another car but was dragged along the road by the vehicle and died later from his injuries.
“Today we remember Ged and the service he gave to the communities of Nottinghamshire. His death was a tragic reminder of the daily risks and dangers officers face each and every time they go on duty. Our thoughts remain with his family, his friends and his colleagues,” says Simon.
A memorial service will be held at Force Headquarters today.
