Financial webinars: free to Fed members

Nottinghamshire Police Federation members can take advantage of a series of free finance and pensions webinars being held over the next few weeks.

The online sessions cover a wide range of issues and have been designed to provide information, guidance and advice on tackling the challenges faced by police officers as a result of the cost of living crisis and for those who are approaching retirement.

Nottinghamshire Federation branch secretary Tom Hill said he would encourage members to register to attend the webinars.

He said: “I think it’s important that members are armed with all the available information if they are trying to navigate the cost of living crisis or planning for their retirement so these online seminars could be invaluable.” 

The next webinar focusing on financial resilience and cost of living support take place on Thursday 23 February and runs from 2pm to 3pm.

Serve and Protect Credit Union business development manager Rob Lovesey is hosting the event and will provide an invaluable insight into how financial challenges can impact on members and explore ways in which financial resilience can be improved.

The webinar will cover cost of living challenges, budgeting, the dangers of problem gambling, accessing affordable credit and the importance of checking personal credit profiles.

A 90-minute webinar entitled ‘Police Pension: The ‘87 Scheme Explained and Remedy Update’ is being held on Monday 27 February starting at noon and will be of particular interest to members approaching retirement.

Financial adviser and former West Midlands Police Federation secretary Steve Grange will take the session which will feature a talk on the ‘87 police pension scheme, a remedy update and a live Q&A. 

A further online event takes place on Tuesday 28 February and explores budgeting and spending. Rob will again lead the webinar which will focus on improving financial resilience, budgeting techniques and spending habits.

All the webinars are free and members who want to attend can reserve a place via the booking site.

Financial expert Metfriendly is also holding pension “Myth-Busting” webinars on Tuesday 21 February and Wednesday 29 March.

The sessions,  which run from 6.30pm to 7.30pm,  are designed for those who want help in untangling the tricky questions around the police pension.
