A new pay calculator has been produced by the Police Federation of England and Wales to help members planning to take maternity leave work out their maternity pay.
It’s part of a new Maternity Guide the Federation has created to ensure members get accurate information about their pay and entitlements.
The guide highlights what to expect during pregnancy, while on maternity leave and when returning to work, and includes a maternity calculator to enable officers to accurately work out their pay.
Simon Riley, chair of Nottinghamshire Police Federation, said: “Having a baby can be one of the happiest times of your life and it’s important members are able to enjoy that time without worrying about their pay and entitlements.
“This is why we’ve created this guide to ensure members know what to expect during their maternity leave and when they return to work - and the new calculator will enable them to work out their accurate pay.
“Police officers receive police maternity pay and statutory maternity pay, but only receive police maternity leave and not statutory leave, and it can start to get complex if they begin maternity leave early because of premature labour or pregnancy-related illness.
“Our new calculator aims to help members find a way through the complexities and to know exactly what they’re entitled to.
“And don’t forget that your Federation branch is always here to help,” Simon added.
