Stigma around the menopause still exists and a majority of police officers and staff struggle at work when enduring the symptoms, a first of a kind survey revealed.
The Police Federation of England and Wales’ (PFEW) Menopause Survey was carried out nationwide in 2018 and again in 2023, aimed to help improve working conditions for Federation members. It was also supported by UNISON, the Police Superintendents’ Association, the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC), and the College of Policing which all promoted the survey to their members.
The Everyone Pause survey findings give an insight into just how much the condition affects the working lives of police officers and staff.
The Federation worked with key policing stakeholders to create national guidance on the menopause.
