Different approaches

Each pension that an officer may have paid in to requires a certain amount of questions to be considered by the SMP (Selected Medical Practitioner), whether:

  • The person is disabled for the performance of the ordinary duties of a member of the police force.
  • Any such disablement is likely to be permanent.
  • The the person is also disabled for engaging in any regular employment (other than as regular police officer).
  • Any such disablement is likely to be permanent.

Therefore, it is important that when completing the form, you also consider how your disability affects you in completing ordinary police duties, normal employment and also your ordinary everyday family life. By doing so it will highlight the strength of your case.
