The appeal

Where an individual is unsatisfied the grievance has been satisfactorily resolved, they have a right to appeal. The grounds should be set in writing and sent to the Employee Relations Manager within seven calendar days.

Any new evidence should also be submitted with this where possible. Following receipt of this, a meeting to hear the appeal will be scheduled ‘without unreasonable delay’ and with a minimum of seven calendar days’ notice. The appeal will consider:

  • The reason for the appeal
  • Any new evidence provided, where relevant

The appeal will then consider the case and determine whether to change or uphold the original decision. This decision will then be confirmed verbally within seven days and in writing within fourteen calendar days or such reasonable time as is appropriate. The appeal hearing decision is final and there is no further right of appeal.

Important

The grievance process often takes significantly longer than the timescales detailed within the policy, and there appears to be no recourse for any extension or delays. You should be realistic regarding the time this can take.
