Members of the Police Federation, almost uniquely, can claim tax relief on their subscriptions via their tax code. This has the effect of reducing the true cost of membership for most officers by 20%.
For example, an officer checking their pay slip today will see an apparent cost of £24.31 for that membership. However, thanks to an agreement brokered by the Federation with HMRC some time ago, the actual cost to the officer is just £19.45 per month.
From 2010 - 31st August 2020 - Full subscription rate was £21.58 per month
From 1 September 2020 - Full subscription rate £23.58 per month
From 1 December 2022 - Full subscription rate £24.31 per month
50 per cent subscription rate for student officers was £10.79 per month until 1 September 2020, £11.79 per month until 30 November 2022, £12.16 from 1 December 2022.
25 per cent subscription rate for student officers (Year 1) was £5.40 per month. This rate was removed for new officers from 1 September 2020 (50 per cent rate now applies).
