The Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) has today written to the newly appointed Home Secretary, Rt. Hon. Grant Shapps MP.
PFEW’s letter to the new Home Secretary makes clear the financial and work pressures on our 139,000 members across England and Wales, especially in the present economic crisis our country is facing.
The letter, jointly written by National Chair Steve Hartshorn and National Secretary Calum Macleod, acknowledged the comment made by Mr Shapps in June 2022 highlighting the need to increase pay across public sector workers as a whole, not just railway workers, noting that police officer pay only went up 7 per cent over a decade in comparison to 39 per cent for train drivers.
PFEW has sought to confirm a scheduled meeting with the Home Secretary on 9 November to discuss the very real issues and challenges that our members are facing right now, in particular, around police pay and the ongoing cost of living crisis.
