Some of the finest officers in England and Wales are set to be honoured at the national Police Bravery Awards.
The event will take place on 18 July and is sponsored by Police Mutual. Now in its 24th year, the Police Bravery Awards honour some of the most courageous officers in England and Wales, who have performed incredible acts of bravery, while on or off duty.
Last year PC Keith Palmer GM and PC Charlie Guenigault GM from the Metropolitan Police were named joint overall winners. PC Palmer was awarded posthumously, after he was tragically killed in a terror attack when he was on duty at the Palace of Westminster. Off-duty PC Guenigault had been relaxing with friends when the London Bridge terror attack unfolded, so the heroic cop fought armed terrorists with his bare hands.
The bravery awards have been running for almost a quarter of a century and in that time hundreds of officers have been recognised. We have honoured those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice and been in the presence of awe-inspiring colleagues, whose bravery and selflessness has gone beyond all else.
John Apter, National Chair of the Police Federation of England and Wales, said: "Many of the nominees have performed acts of bravery where they put their own lives at risk to help others. I couldn't be more proud to be attending the event on behalf of the Police Federation of England and Wales and making sure that we celebrate the very best in policing".
