Lancashire Police Federation

Mary Brown Q & A

9 May 2024

Mary Brown is moving on up at Lancashire Police Federation after being appointed as our treasurer, having previously been a representative for the West Division.
She has encouraged more officers to come forward and help make the federation an even better and more representative place.
Give us a little bit of a breakdown on your policing career, Mary…
I’ve done just over 20 years of policing. All of it, bar the last 12 months, have been on the frontline working Blackpool in West Division in Lancashire.

And what made you become a federation rep?

I just enjoy helping other officers. I was a tutor on our student development units and I have been one for years. It’s all about helping officers, having somebody for them to speak to and hopefully making a difference.

What would you say to other officers who might be considering becoming a fed rep?

I’d say if they’ve got the passion, the commitment and the time to definitely do it because it’s great to have people from different roles and experiences. I don’t know how much of this I can say, but we lack fed reps in CID and things like that, so it would be great to get people on the council from different areas within the police.
