Lancashire Police Federation

Martin Midgley Bio

I have been a police officer for 22 years.  I have a good understanding of policing in all areas. During my career and through my promotions to Inspector, I have worked on response, NPT, in divisional multi-agency partnerships, as a custody sergeant, Special Constabulary coordinator, Quality Inspector and latterly as RIT Inspector.  My current role is arguably the hardest uniformed Inspector role. Through the implementation of the TOM and RIT I have demonstrated clear leadership, whilst maintaining a clear focus on welfare. I am passionate about supporting my staff.
I have demonstrated my ability to build relationships with internal and external partners, leading to me winning the High Sheriffs award for outstanding partnership working on two occasions. I have conducted internal reviews, presented a new structure and operating model to the Chief Officer Team and implemented a new approach to volunteer policing. I have experience of negotiating with and working alongside SMTs and the Chief Officer Team to deliver improvement and change. I am experienced at presenting to senior leaders, partners and peers in both large scale settings and smaller groups.
I am married to a Detective which gives me a good understanding of the detective portfolios and the pressures and challenges of working in Investigation departments.
I have been a “Fed Rep” for 3 years allowing me a more formal way of helping and supporting colleagues. I have done this on top of my normal role; much of it in my own time. I have proved I can think strategically which will enable me to lead the Federation with clear direction and purpose. I will work to build trust not only in Lancashire’s branch, but also in the National Federation. I want members to know your voice is heard, and you are intrinsic in improving the Federation and how we support you. I will represent you on the national council and work with the new CEO to ensure the Federation is fit for purpose for the future.
My drive to support others led to me setting up a support network for Chronic Fatigue after my own diagnosis, using my experiences to help others. I am passionate about assisting others to ensure they meet their full potential irrespective of their disability or background.
Like many of you, I know how hard it can be to balance my home life and personal challenges with the demands of being a police officer in a busy and demanding role. I am standing for election as you need a Chair who can empathise and gets it. I want to lead the Federation, reinvigorating our purpose with a clear strategy to ensure we are providing an exceptional service to you all. Hopefully, you will know I am a genuine, open and transparent leader who cares for you all and you will trust me to work with passion to ensure the Federation offers you the best support possible.

Thanks Martin
