Why I'm Glad I Joined the Kent Police Benevolent Fund
Like many people, I joined the Kent Police Benevolent Fund and never thought I would need to use it personally.
Recently, I suffered an unexpected fall at home which resulted in a broken wrist. It was one of those incidents that happens in an instant but can have a significant impact on everyday life. Alongside the physical recovery, there were financial concerns and unexpected costs that I hadn't planned for.
The Kent Police Benevolent Fund has provided me with financial support, which was both greatly appreciated and genuinely helpful. Knowing that assistance was available when I needed it most took away some of the stress and allowed me to focus on my recovery.
For staff, membership costs just £2 per month – less than the price of a cup of coffee. It's a small contribution that helps ensure support is available when life throws something unexpected your way.
None of us knows what's around the corner. An accident, illness, family crisis or unforeseen circumstance can happen to anyone. When it does, having the support of the Benevolent Fund can make a real difference.
I would encourage anyone who is not already a member to consider joining. We spend so much time looking after others; sometimes it's important to make sure support is there for ourselves and our families too.
For just £2 per month for Staff and £3.60 for Officers, it's reassuring to know that help is available should you ever need it.
You never think you'll need it – until you do.
"My recent experience has shown me first-hand the value of being a member of the Kent Police Benevolent Fund. For just £2 a month, I received support when I needed it most following an unexpected injury. None of us can predict what's around the corner, but it's reassuring to know help is there should the unexpected happen. I would encourage all staff who aren't already members to consider joining."
Best wishes
