Humberside Police Federation

Introducing Dan Haile - the new Secretary of Humberside Police Federation

25 June 2025

Q: Tell us a bit about your policing career.

I am a Sergeant with 24 years of frontline policing experience, having worked across all pillars of local policing and specialist operations. My career has included a wide variety of operational roles, including time as a dog handler, and has given me a broad understanding of the challenges faced by officers on the ground. That experience has shaped my commitment to supporting colleagues and improving the working lives of those on the frontline.

Q: Why did you get involved in the Federation?

I got involved because I care deeply about helping people. Supporting colleagues through difficult times, making sure they feel heard, and fighting for fairness in how officers are treated are the values that drive me. Policing can be incredibly tough, and I wanted to be someone who could stand beside our members when they need it most. The Federation has the ability to make a real difference in people’s lives, and I’m proud to be part of that.

Q: And how does it feel to be Secretary now?

It is a real honour. It is not a position I take lightly because there is a weight of expectation that comes with representing so many hard-working officers. I am fortunate to have a strong and supportive team around me. We are united in our purpose to provide effective and proactive support to our members across the board.

Q: What are your immediate priorities in the role?

First and foremost, maintaining the high standard of welfare provision we have become known for in Humberside. Our branch has built a solid reputation for looking after our people, and I want to not only preserve that but continue to improve it. We work closely with the force and its wellbeing team to come up with innovative solutions that meet the needs of our members and reflect the realities of modern policing. I am also passionate about the professionalisation of Federation work. That means helping reps understand their roles on boards, councils, and in strategic decision-making so they are confident and effective in whatever space they are operating in.

Q: And do you have a message for members?

The Federation’s national Copped Enough campaign has rightly highlighted the pressure officers are under. We fully support its message here in Humberside. We understand the toll the job can take, physically, mentally and emotionally, and we are committed to making sure our members are protected, supported and treated with the respect they deserve. Just know that we are here for you. While you are out there doing an incredibly demanding job serving the public, we are here to support and represent you. Whether it is something small or something that feels overwhelming, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are a friendly and approachable branch.
