This year’s Police Get Active Challenge gets underway this month and Humberside Police Federation members are being urged to give their fitness and wellbeing a boost by getting involved.
Those who choose to take up the challenge will also be raising money for Police Care UK, the charity for serving and veteran police officers and staff, volunteers, and their families who have suffered any physical or psychological harm as a result of policing.
The month-long challenge kicks off on 28 June and participants can get involved by doing any sort of physical activity from a 1km walk to running a marathon, swimming, taking part in a gym session, joining an exercise class or going for a bike ride and then log their progress on the Get Active Challenge website or mobile apps.
They can raise vital funds as part of their challenge by setting up a Just Giving or Virgin Money Giving page and asking family, friends, colleagues and workplaces to sponsor them.
The money raised will go directly towards improving the lives of police officers injured or killed on duty, and their loved ones.
Everyone who takes up the Get Active Challenge will receive a special commemorative police challenge coin.
It costs £15 to sign up and half the entry fee will go straight to Police Care UK, the charity for serving and veteran police officers and staff, volunteers, and their families who have suffered any physical or psychological harm as a result of policing.
Humberside Police Federation chair Lee Sims urged members to get involved.
He said: “The Get Active Challenge is a brilliant way for our members to give their physical fitness and mental wellbeing a boost by getting some extra exercise.
"At the same time they can raise money for Police Care UK which is a cause we all support.
“People can do as much or as little as they choose but I would encourage as many people as possible to go onto the website and register to take part.”
The challenge runs until 26 July and officers can register online.
