Humberside Police Federation chair Pete Musgrave is encouraging members to start the new year by getting active for charity.
The annual Blue Light Get Active Challenge is launching on Monday (18 January), with participants able to raise money for national charity Police Care UK.
“Whether it’s walking, running, cycling, or releasing your inner Joe Wicks, this challenge can be adapted to suit anyone,” said Pete.
“It would be great to see as many people from Humberside involved as possible.”
Free fund-raising places are limited, so all those wanting to sign up are advised to do so as soon as possible.
This year, participants will be able to gain bonus points by taking part in mindfulness activities or by showing a ‘random act of kindness’.
“After over-indulging over the festive period, we shouldn’t need a reason to get a bit more active,” added Pete.
“Plus, it will be great to see a bit of friendly competition between those taking part while raising money for a much-deserved cause.”
Now more than ever Police Care UK needs extra support, having seen an increase in demand over the past year, says Dave Blundell, engagement officer at the charity.
“The coronavirus pandemic has had a huge effect on everybody’s mental health, including that of many of our police colleagues who we support,” he explains.
Police Care UK is a national charity for serving and veteran police officers and staff, volunteers and their families who have suffered any physical or psychological harm as a result of policing.
It offers psychological support, financial assistance, specialist equipment grants, career transition advice, veterans’ peer support and educational bursaries.
The Blue Light Get Active Challenge will run from Monday (18 January) until Sunday 14 February and people can sign up any time before Saturday 13 February.
