Inspectors’ exam: update

15 October 2020

All sergeants who completed the online inspectors’ exam earlier this week will be awarded the grade they attained, despite the College of Policing suspending the exam due to technical problems.

If they did not pass, they will be offered a quick time re-sit.

The college has also confirmed that any officer who did not complete the exam will be offered the chance to do so and, if they do not pass, they will be offered an early opportunity to arrange a re-sit. Those who were not even able to start the original exam on Tuesday will be allowed to sit it and again, if required, re-sit it in quick time.

After every exam process a debrief panel is held, usually within a month. However, an emergency debrief panel for this exam will be held tomorrow (16 October) so the results can be analysed, pass mark confirmed and results validated.

Dave Bamber, the Federation’s National Board member who leads on the College of Policing, will attend the meeting along with representatives of the National Police Chiefs’ Council and other stakeholders.

He explained: “It has been widely acknowledged that the running of the exam became disastrous and that the technical issues that our members encountered were disruptive, damaging and should not have occurred. Since the issues were identified the Federation has been consistently and persistently in contact with management, senior leadership and executives at the College of Policing.”
