Hertfordshire Police Federation chair Luke Mitchell has paid tribute to a young PC who died on this day more than 30 years ago.
PC Jacqueline Brown died from serious injuries sustained in the early hours of 6 June 1989 when she lost control of her patrol car which crashed on a bend in wet weather while she was driving a prisoner and escort at Harpenden. She was just 23.
Luke said: “The loss of any police officer while they are carrying out their duties serving and protecting their communities is always felt not just by the Force in which they worked, but also the wider police service and the public. The fact that Jacqueline was so young when she lost her life makes her death particularly tragic.
“Today, as a Federation, we remember Jacqueline and her service to the Force but we also keep her family and friends in our thoughts too.”
