Hertfordshire Police Federation

Chair praises Hertfordshire officers and Cambridgeshire colleagues following train incident

17 November 2025

Hertfordshire Police Federation has commended the bravery and professionalism of the officers who supported colleagues from Cambridgeshire Police during a recent train stabbing.

The horrific incident unfolded on Saturday 1 November, when reports came in of multiple stabbings aboard the 6.25pm LNER service from Doncaster to King’s Cross.

Many officers - including those from Hertfordshire - responded swiftly to assist at Huntingdon Station alongside paramedics and armed officers from Cambridgeshire Police.

Branch chair Luke Mitchell said: “Our thoughts are first and foremost with the victims, their families, and all those affected by this horrific incident.

"We also stand shoulder to shoulder with our colleagues from Cambridgeshire and the wider region who responded with professionalism and bravery under immense pressure.

Stabbings

“We are immensely proud of the Hertfordshire officers who assisted at the scene and supported the ongoing response. Their courage, calmness, and teamwork exemplify the very best of policing.”

Luke continued to recognise the commitment of Liz Groom, chair of Cambridgeshire Police Federation, who ‘went above and beyond’ to offer reassurance and support to members affected by the traumatic events.

He said: “Colleagues across the region have widely praised Liz’s swift, compassionate, and hands-on response.

“Her attentiveness in supporting all those impacted by the incidents, including officers - not just those from Cambridgeshire - during and after such a traumatic incident demonstrates outstanding leadership and genuine compassion."

The Federation emphasised that support remains available to all officers affected by the events, whether directly or indirectly, and encouraged anyone in need to reach out.

“Incidents like this remind us of the unpredictable and often dangerous nature of policing,” Luke said, ending: “But they also remind us of the strength, professionalism, and unity that run through our police family across forces.”
