Hertfordshire Police Federation has paid tribute to Sergeant Reece Buckenham after he died in a road accident on Saturday (29 June).
The 36-year-old father-of-two was riding a motorcycle on the A10 between Rush Green and Great Amwell when the collision occurred at 7am. He had just finished a night shift.
‘Superhero daddy’ Reece has been described by his family as a ‘wonderful father’ who ‘lit up any room with his smile and infectious personality’.
Chair of Hertfordshire Police Federation Luke Mitchell said: “This is such incredibly sad news.
Sergeant Reece Buckenham.
“While I never worked with Reece, I’ve heard from both our branch secretary Al Wollaston and equality lead Terasa Holden what a wonderful man he was and how much he was liked.
"Proud police officer Reece was more than a brilliant colleague, he was an amazing friend to so many, and he will be truly missed.
“Reece’s death will be felt by all that knew him at both Hertfordshire Police and those in the Met, where he previously served as a PSCO. My thoughts remain with everyone who was lucky enough to have known him, and his family, at this extremely sad time.
“Should anyone feel they need any additional support, please don’t hesitate to contact the Federation. We are here for you.”
Luke also recognised the work of the staff that worked over the weekend, including Assistant Chief Constable Amanda Bell, who quickly put the measures in place so that all staff were informed about Reece’s death in the most sensitive way possible while ensuring the welfare of staff were put first.
“At what was a difficult time, our officers came together to ensure all shifts were covered so that those close to Reece were able to grieve,” continued Luke.
“From Assistant Chief Constable Amanda Bell to the officers and Special Constables who helped to ensure the Force was still able to provide a professional service to the public, following such a tragic event.”
