The Police Federation for England and Wales (PFEW) annual national conference takes place in person next week for the first time in four years.
The conference is being held in Manchester on Tuesday and Wednesday (May 17 to 18), and members can also attend virtually.
Fighting for Fairness is this year’s theme and Hertfordshire Police Federation secretary Al Wollaston said he was looking forward to hearing from politicians, Federation representatives and keynote speakers on the major issues facing the Federation, its members and policing.
Al said: “It’s great to be able to meet in person again after holding the pandemic forced us to hold the last two conferences virtually.
“We’ve had a difficult two years, policing Covid-19 followed by the cost of living crisis, which has highlighted the financial difficulties facing many of our members and hammered their morale.
“So it’s apt that the theme of this year’s conference is Fighting for Fairness.
“Recruitment and retention, the mental and physical effects of policing, the threat of violence against officers, conduct, these are all other key issues for members and I look forward to hearing the discussions.”
The conference will be facilitated by broadcaster Ian Collins.
First day highlights include discussions on pay and conditions, the Government’s uplift programme, and the pension remedy.
Day two will examine the effects of trauma and mental health, CPS guidance and the complexity of legislation in relation to police drivers.
The conference will also be announcing and presenting an award to the winner of the Women in Policing Award.
Register to join the conference virtually.
Sessions can be viewed via the online platform and questions posed to speakers in the main auditorium sessions. There’s also an opportunity to build your profile and interact with other online attendees.
