The Chief Constable has agreed to pay the subscription fees of any members of the Force’s Special Constabulary who wish to sign up for membership of the Police Federation.
The move has been welcomed by Hertfordshire Police Federation secretary Al Wollaston who says it is right and proper that those who already give up their own time to support the police service do not have to pay to subscribe to the Federation and gain the protections afforded to their regular colleagues.
“We are pleased that under the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act, which came into effect in July, Specials can now become members of the Police Federation,” says Al.
“Specials face the same risks as their regular colleagues and should have access to the support and representation that we provide to police officers.
“We would urge all Specials to find out more about the benefits of Federation membership by contacting the Federation office, speaking to our workplace representatives or having a chat with a regular colleague.”
