Constables sitting their sergeants’ exams this week have been praised for the amount of time they have dedicated to studying while also working through one of the most challenging periods in policing history.
And Geoff Bardell, chair of Hertfordshire Police Federation, has wished them all every success with their exams.
“Putting yourself forward for promotion, and the extra time that process takes, always has to be carefully considered,” says Geoff, “So to do that during the pandemic with the additional pressures already on officers shows a degree of determination and commitment.
“Of course, as well as being on the frontline of the nation’s response to the pandemic and dealing with their own personal anxieties around that, they are also aware that we are in one of the biggest police recruitment campaigns for many years so it is critically important that we have officers ready to step up to supervisory roles.
“I hope this week goes well for all candidates and would like to put on my record my thanks, on behalf of the Federation, to all those who have put in the time to study for these exams.”
