Hertfordshire Police Federation secretary Al Wollaston is encouraging members to use International Stress Awareness Week as a chance to think about their mental health.
The week runs from 2 to 6 November, and includes National Stress Awareness Day today (4 November). They aim to shine a light on stress and mental health problems, raise awareness and promote support services.
“The pandemic has impacted people’s wellbeing like nothing before,” said Al, “And as we head into another lockdown and the long, dark winter nights, it’s bound to continue to be an issue for many people which is why we’re encouraging members to take some time for themselves and their own mental health.
“We need to start thinking about the small changes we can make in our lifestyles that can make a big difference to how we feel.”
To help, Police Mutual has produced a factsheet with tips on how to manage your stress such as exercise, organising your time and talking to friends, family or colleagues.
Al added: “Your Police Federation is also here for any of our members who need help and support so please do not hesitate to contact the office staff or your workplace representatives.”
