National Police Healthcare Scheme

Affordable private healthcare for police officers, staff and their families

The National Police Healthcare Scheme is designed specifically for the policing community, offering a practical way to access private healthcare when you need it most.

It’s been in place since 1989 and is still run on a not-for-profit basis by serving officers, which means it stays focused on what actually matters to members.

If you’ve ever faced long waits for treatment, you’ll know how frustrating that can be. The scheme helps take some of that pressure away by giving you access to consultations, tests and treatment without the same delays.

It covers a wide range of care, including:

  • Consultant fees, diagnostics and surgical procedures
  • Physiotherapy, osteopathy and chiropractic treatment
  • Follow-up appointments after treatment
  • A cash benefit option if you decide to use the NHS

It’s also refreshingly straightforward to join. There are no medical assessments to go through, no age restrictions and your subscription won’t go up if you need to claim. Pre-existing conditions are covered, too, after a qualifying period.

In addition to healthcare support, members get free access to Police Treatment Centres and the option to use holiday homes at not-for-profit rates. Serving officers and staff receive three months’ free membership, while student officers get their first year free.  Full details and the application form are available on the National Police Healthcare Scheme website.
