A week before the Police and Crime Commissioner elections, the Chair of Hampshire Police Federation said she looked forward to discussing a range of issues with the newly elected PCC, including fair funding and officer wellbeing.
Last year the Government postponed the election of Police and Crime Commissioners due to the pandemic, so elections are now going ahead on 6 May - one week today.
Chair of Hampshire Police Federation Zoë Wakefield said one of her top priorities for discussions with the PCC was fair funding for Hampshire Police.
She said: “If we had sufficient funding, we could have more officers, which would alleviate a lot of issues around stress.
“I would also like to see support for a review of the South East Allowance. Also important is support for officers who have been assaulted and assistance with ensuring the courts are using the powers they have to impose custodial sentences.
“Fair pay for officers is another big issue – 64% of applications to our Welfare Fund were to help pay for rent, food and living expenses. And I’d also like to discuss officer wellbeing.
Zoë added that she was confident she would be able to meet with the successful candidate soon after the election.
