Police Care UK has been given an early Christmas present to help it continue to fund its support service for Hampshire officers suffering from mental or physical injuries.
Hampshire Police Federation Secretary Garry Smith is also a Volunteer Ambassador for Police Care UK and accepted a donation of £443.68 on behalf of the charity.
He said: “My job is to look after the local volunteers and their job is to raise awareness for Police Care UK.
“As a charity, they support officers who are injured in the execution of their duty.
“There are various services that the force will provide, but Police Care UK goes further and will get more support for officers who are struggling physically or mentally.”
Garry has been a volunteer for Police Care UK for two years and said he has seen a huge surge in demand, with “a 500% increase in 2019-20”.
Garry explains the donation will help the charity keep their support services going for Hampshire members.
He added: “There was a project called ‘PPE for the mind’, where they taught the officers how to process trauma using various parts of their brain.
“They have also just launched the 12 days active challenge, which I’ve made my colleagues sign up to, so we can all get out, stay active and raise some money for the charity.
“Police Care UK are vital services and if they were not funded then it would have serious effects.”
