Hampshire Police Federation supports Baby Loss Awareness Week with special Q&A session

14 October 2020

Hampshire Police officers who have been affected by miscarriage or baby loss - and managers who want assistance in being able to offer support - can attend a special Q&A session tomorrow at Netley Thursday 15 October.

To mark National Baby Loss Week, a tree is being planted in the grounds of Netley with the force chaplain to remember all the children and babies that have been lost to Hampshire Police officers and staff.

There will also be a Q&A session for officers at Netley from 10am-12pm.

Hampshire Police Federation Chair Zoe Wakefield said: “The miscarriage and baby loss group has been running for a couple of years now and we are trying to raise awareness with managers about the issue, because it’s a topic that hasn’t been talked about a lot.

“A lot of people have been suffering miscarriages and coming to work and not talking about it, and our male colleagues don’t talk about it enough when it happens to their partners. We’ve got miscarriage support contacts so that we can provide one-to-one support to anybody that suffers a miscarriage or the loss of a baby.

“The drop-in session at Netley is for anybody – managers, officers and staff – who want to ask us questions.

“We have a miscarriage policy and How To guides for managers, so there is a lot of information out there, but we know that it doesn’t cover every scenario. We want to make ourselves accessible so that people can come and ask whatever they want.”

If you would like to take part online, please contact the Federation office who will be able to provide a link.
