Pay and Morale Survey: Time is running out to have your say

Keith Chambers, chair of Derbyshire Federation, is repeating his call, urging members to complete the Federation’s latest Pay and Morale Survey before the deadline on Monday 28 October.

The annual study – carried out in the autumn and published the following spring – provides the evidence base for the Federation to argue for fairer pay and working conditions for members in our discussions with senior police leaders, politicians and the Home Office.

Last year 556 Derbyshire officers submitted a completed survey, which was about 26 per cent of the Constabulary. This year we hope to increase that number further.

Keith said: “It’s vitally important that the ‘powers that be’ hear your views, whether that’s senior Force leaders or MPs. The information you give us will be analysed by our HQ in Leatherhead and turned into localised reports which underpin our arguments around pay and conditions.

“This enables your reps to make the case for change on your behalf.”

Last year’s survey found that three quarters of Derbyshire officers were unhappy with their level of remuneration. And 88 per cent reported that their household bills had gone up in the previous 12 months. 13 per cent ‘never or almost never’ had sufficient money to cover their essentials.

The survey also found that 40 per cent of Derbyshire colleagues had encountered abuse and 12 per cent were victims of physical attacks in the previous 12 months. Only 14 per cent reported being double crewed for all shifts.
