Derbyshire Police Federation

Autumn edition of News and Views out now

26 October 2023

A bumper 26-page autumn edition of News and Views, Derbyshire Police Federation’s magazine, is available now to download.

We remember the police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty with features on this year’s National Police Memorial Day and the annual Care of Police Survivors (COPS) Service of Remembrance.

The magazine features all the news and views from this year’s annual Federation conference including the keynote speeches by national Federation chair Steve Hartshorn and Home Secretary Suella Braverman.

Find out why officers are choosing to be assaulted rather than use force due to misconduct fears, and how non-disclosure agreements are being used by forces to silence victims of sexism and misogyny.

There are features on the Federation’s #SimplifyDG6 campaign, mutual aid allowances, health and wellbeing, retirement, and leadership in policing.

National Federation secretary Calum Macleod admits he would tell his younger self to choose a different career as he discusses pay and conditions while chief executive Mukund Krishna apologises for the organisation’s failure to challenge the Government’s change in pensions policy in his speech.

Away from conference, there’s a call from Derbyshire branch chair Tony Wetton for the Independent Office for Police Conduct to play a more positive role in restoring public trust in policing.

Read how David Holmes took advantage of the law change allowing Specials to be Federation members and became the Force’s first volunteer to receive Taser training.

Student officer Ryan Banner shares his story about being assessed for ADHD and autism, and we meet newly-qualified dog handler PC Sam Brassington and his police dog Stark.

Branch chair Tony praises the fundraising efforts of a senior officer in the Force who walked solo across the country in aid of charity, and we hear from former Derbyshire Federation member Rob Stordy, who is encouraging officers to support cops in Ukraine.

It’s all in the autumn edition of News and Views which is available online now
