Return of Ratana 10K

16 April 2021

Derbyshire Police Federation chair Tony Wetton is encouraging officers to get involved in The Ratana 10k this month.

The virtual event is organised in memory of Sergeant Matt Ratana who was killed in the line of duty at Croydon custody suite in September 2020.

It was established last winter by Matt’s good friend and colleague, Paul Hollis, with more than 2,500 people taking part from home last time and raising over £40,000.

“I’m so pleased to see the return of The Ratana 10k, an excellent event designed to remember our lost colleague, Sergeant Matt Ratana,” said Tony.

“The event was a huge success first time around and is set to be even bigger and better this year. It would be fantastic to see officers and police staff from across Derbyshire taking part in the fund-raising and representing the force in paying our continued respect to Matt’s family, friends and partner.

All proceeds from this year’s event will be split between Matt’s partner, Su, and the Matt Ratana Rugby Foundation established by his former friends and colleagues at East Grinstead Rugby Club.

Rugby was a huge passion for Matt and Paul wants to encourage clubs and every police force in the country to take part.

“I encourage everyone to show their support to the event, whether you complete the 10k in one day or over several days, all that matters is the taking part,” added Tony.
