Derbyshire Police Federation will today be joining organisations up and down the country to mark the National Day of Reflection.
The event marks a year to the date that the Prime Minister announced the first national lockdown and aims to give the nation an opportunity to remember all those who have died over the past 12 months.
Led by the national cancer charity Marie Curie, today’s event will include a minute’s silence at midday.
Communities are also being encouraged to take part in the ‘beacon of light’ at 8pm by stepping out onto their doorsteps or standing at their windows while shining a light, whether that be a candle, torch or mobile phone.
Derbyshire Police Federation branch chair Tony Wetton: “We’re proud to be coming together with the nation, police forces across the country, Police Federation branches and the public to support today’s event.
“It has been an incredibly difficult year and it is good for everyone to have an opportunity to reflect, to remember all those who have lost their lives and also show support to their families.”
The Federation is encouraging those who have dealt with loss or bereavement, whether at work or at home, to reach out for support if they need it.
