Memorial day service to be held online

The National Police Memorial Day service will be held online this year.

The service, which honours officers who have died in the line of duty, will be held on Sunday 27 September at 3pm.

The website streaming the service will also host a tribute wall where you can share your memories and leave messages.

“The memorial day service is one of the most important dates in the policing calendar,” says Kirsty Bunn, secretary of Derbyshire Police Federation, “It provides the policing family with an opportunity to come together and remember those officers who have paid the ultimate price while serving the public and also show their families that their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

“It became clear some time ago that it would not be possible for the memorial day service to be held in Lincoln as planned so plans were put in place for an alternative way of honouring our fallen colleagues.

“I hope as many people as possible can watch the online service and also find the time to add their own messages to the tribute wall.”

To access the service, you will be asked to provide your name and email address.

National Police Memorial Day was first held in 2004 and has been held at the end of September each year since. It rotates around England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Federation representatives, chief officers and the Home Secretary usually join the families of fallen officers at the service and the Prince of Wales, patron of the National Police Memorial Day charity, often attends.
