ACC set to return to his roots

Derbyshire Police Federation chair Tony Wetton has paid tribute to ACC Paul Gibson, who is set to leave the Force to become Chief Constable of Lincolnshire – the county where his policing career began.

Tony said: “We offer our congratulations to Paul on his richly deserved selection as the preferred candidate for the Chief Constable of Lincolnshire and wish him all the very best in his new role.

“It’s been a real privilege to have worked with him.”

Paul joined Derbyshire as Assistant Chief Constable in 2018 after policing in Lincolnshire for nearly two decades. The 46-year-old began as a PC in Grantham and has worked in forensics and CID.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here in Derbyshire,” said Paul. “It’s a fantastic county and force. I’ve been privileged to work with so many excellent people and while I’m excited for the future challenges, I’ll miss it here in Derbyshire.

“I will be here for a few months yet, but it’s a good time to say thank you for the support the Police Federation has shown to me and I wish you all the very best for the future.”

Paul, who was born in Lincolnshire, added: “I’m thrilled and honoured to be selected and am very much looking forward to coming home. I’ve always harboured an ambition to one day lead the force that has gained a reputation for innovation. I will be proud to continue that and to work hard for the people of Lincolnshire.”
